Calm: A playlist to soothe your mind & body

"Music is healing. Write that down first. Music holds things together."

- Prince

Most of us intuitively know music to be a powerful healing force. Many people naturally turn to music to assist with a number of life's challenges, from finding comfort when feeling down to even boosting one's level of focus and productivity.

The sounds we listen to influence us on subtle yet profound levels. Science confirms that music can be used as a tool to help calm the mind and nervous system. A recent study shows that “listening to music has the capacity to initiate a multitude of cognitive processes in the brain”. Sound can trigger different cognitive processes depending on the genre or type of sounds being listened to.

The study concluded that, "music listening impacted the psychobiological stress system. Listening to music prior to a standardized stressor predominantly affected the autonomic nervous system (in terms of a faster recovery), and to a lesser degree the endocrine and psychological stress response.”

Stress is something we all battle, especially while living and working in the fast pace of today's society. Music can help to calm the mind and body when feeling stressed and even help to recover more quickly from stressful situations.
