October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! As research continues to become available, science is exploring new ways to provide effective treatment to stage IV cancer patients. According to ResearchGate, “among these, a new treatment approach is emerging: the use of sound wave beams to treat advanced cancers.”

Ultrasound uses sound waves with frequencies, which are not audible to humans. At low power, they are used to create images of human tissues, organs or fetus. However, at very high energies (more than 10,000 times of normal use), ultrasound waves can destroy the cells. Such beams, heat up the cells and cause their death.
